Interior Repairs and Renovations

(Numbers are for reference only and do not necessarily denote order in which the above actions will be performed)

Exterior Repairs and Renovations

There are a number of deferred maintenance issues, general repairs and minor updates needed, some of which will need to be taken care of fairly soon after we acquire the church. If you would like to vonlunteer to help with repair work, please get in touch with us!

Boiler

The extent of repair that the boiler needs is not currently known, but the boiler has been frequently mentioned at meetings within the parish family that Holy Name used to belong to. A few of our board members have friends who work on boilers and may be able to help. However, there may be some costs associated with this project.

Roofing Repairs

The slate roof is very beautiful, but unfortunately is in need of some repair. The extent of repair neede is not yet known.

Tuck Pointing

The brick building is in need of tuckpointing. This is especially evident near the side doors at the rear of the church, closest to the sanctuary.

Water Damage

Between the tuckpointing and the roof issues, we do have some water damage. Thankfully, this does not appear to have affected the interior of the sanctuary or nave of the church yet, but there is repair needed behind the sanctuary and sacristies.

Concrete repairs

Several of the concrete steps on the property have begun to deteriorate and need to be repaired.

Choir Area

We plan to move the choir area to it's proper location: the choir loft. This is ideal to help create a prayerful atmosphere, and actually helps improve acoustics. The choir loft itself does not appear to be in need of repair, just a little dusting.

However, there is an electric organ up there that does not work properly. Parts of the keyboard work but are very quiet. We do not know if it can be repaired, but this certainly would be a nice asset.

Baptismal Font

Traditionally, the baptismal font would be positioned in the back of the church, and we plan to move it there. This helps visualize the act of bringing a person INTO the church through baptism. The brass top of the font also needs to be polished.

Confessionals

In favor of the "Reconciliation room" in the back of the church, the confessionals have not been used for some time. We do not know if the red/green lights work properly. Also, the screens inside have been covered with some sort of plastic shield, which makes it very difficult for the priest to hear the penitent and vice-versa. We intend to re-screen them with a different material that will better facilitate sound, while preserving the privacy of penitents who prefer the screened side.

Second Handicap Accessible Bathroom

Currently, the church has only one handicapped accessible restroom. While we still need to look into this becoming a possibility in terms of plumbing structure, we are hopeful that the improvements of the confessionals may make it possible for the "Reconciliation room" to be transformed into a second handicapped accessible restroom so that we can better serve the elderly and disabled among us.

Landscape Improvements

In order to better facilitate the erection of a memorial garden for the unborn, a great deal of honey-suckle and other brush must be removed from the hillside. While we want to preserve visibility to the house next door (which is currently occupied by Cincinnati Right to Life, but used to be Alfred Kinsey's abortuary), we plan to replace these invasive and unattractive plants with ornamental trees, native wildflowers, and other plants that will help prevent erosion, beautify the hillside, and benefit local pollinators.
